4 Steps To Reach A Flow State In Your Workouts
Ever got into your workout feeling out of focus, and energy after a long day at work where you dealt with a lot of pressure and stress? Remember rushing into your workout with a mindset of “let’s do a quick workout and finish with it”?
I know how it feels, we all have those times – But there is another way.
The goal of this article is to bring you to a place where you are going into your workouts feeling energized, focus, rather than just going through the motions. I want you to be in a place of pure enjoyment and excitement from your workouts.
So how can you reach this flow state in your workouts?
Let’s dive in..
#1 Visualize Your Workout
When we are going from one task to another it’s very easy to lose focus, and to be present at the moment.
Before your next workout, I want you to take 10 minutes to clear your mind and thoughts.
In those 10 minutes, you need to cut everything that happened throughout the day, all the stress, anger, frustration everything!
Training is your time in the day! it’s the time when it’s just you and the weights when you can get rid of all the stress and everything you go through.
Visualize what are you going to do in the workout, exercises, reps, etc… think about how good and calm you will feel after crushing your workout and getting one step close to your goals.
2# Music
A 2013 study, looking at the “psychological functions of music listening”, found that music has the ability to ‘regulate mood and achieve self-awareness’. Simply put, your favorite gym playlist can give you an opportunity to think about yourself, lift your spirits, and help you dig deep when you’re on the final stretch.
So, next time before you hit the gym make sure to set up your favorite playlist.
3# Embrace the Pain And The Struggle
In order to reach a flow state, to reach maximum focus you need to go out of your comfort zone.
Push yourself to the limits and set the bar high! challenge yourself every single time to get better, because nothing great comes easy.. do that one more set or rep.
#4 Positive Mindset
You don’t have to work out, working out is a choice and you’re doing it because you set some goals for yourself, because you want to grow both physically and mentally.
Being able to workout is a gift, be grateful for this opportunity, smile more, and surround yourself with positivity. Take some time in your workouts to get lost in the process, in positive thoughts, and always remember why you started and where you want to go next!
